Puhleeze, I do distinguish between the Chinese people and the Chinese government. I also dated a Chinese woman who lives here in the States because her family members were made refugees by the Communists. So in a sense I love Chinese!

I'm also including CBS as one of those fat cat corporations that's doing stuff for the lowest price to maximize their profits. Not that there's anything wrong with maximizing your profits but in this case I bet CBS got off very easy. For most of the other series they always had to pump a lot of money into the economy of the filming location or island just to get the rights to film there. Such items have included sewage treatment plants, paved roads, buildings, and other improvements. You can call them fees or payments or contractual agreements. Some might also call them bribes.

In the case of China the government is doing everything they can to build good public relations prior to having the next Olympics. So they probably didn't demand payments as such. I'd bet that they bent over backwards trying to help CBS with anything they needed to produce this Survivor just so everything looks peachy-keen on the show. That may have included "volunteer" workers for site preparation and who knows what else the government dictated needed to be done. In all good conscience I can't support this Survivor series in any way, and that includes watching it. My family had their fill of dictatorial type government as well in Germany during and prior to WWII and were very happy to come to America. So in a sense my family is also a refugee family and that's why I won't support this Survivor by watching it. I'm not calling for a boycott or anything, it's just a matter of principle for me.
