It doesnt officially premier on HBO until Sunday, September 9th. Here are my thoughts on it. There is a lot of sex - not the porny kind you normally see in movies and pay-cable TV series. There was a LOT of nudity in this and it felt like I was watching actual sex happening. The characters are very realistic, as are their relationships. They did a brilliant job with that. The problem is I dont think many people are going to watch a show that is so realistic. I mean even our reality TV isn't realistic - do we really want our drama series to be so close to reality? So I thought for what it was (a show about realistic couples with realistic problems), it was spot on. Will people want to watch it every week? Honestly, I dont think so.

I'll give this show a chance, but I get the feeling it won't fare much better than John from Cincinnati. Hopefully HBO will get moving with Preacher and A Song of Ice and Fire. Those are two series that could inject some life into the network. True Blood, the new Alan Ball series, also sounds promising.

Should fare better for those reasons alone.

After he's "done" she looks at the "stuff" on her hand. There's also a shot of a woman on top of a man. Its filmed from behind them so you have a nice view of his... area. Ok, "nice" wouldnt be the best way to describe the view.

The young couple is annoying, and the couple trying to have a baby didn't interest me at all. The older married couple are the only ones I even remotely sympathized with. I liked the marriage counselor too. I'll tune in again next week, but I think this show is going to lose my interest fast if it's nothing but boring people talking about their issues, punctuated by a few scenes of explicit sex. Californication does this concept much better, probably because it doesn't take itself so damn seriously. And David Duchovny is more likeable than any of the wet blankets on this show. Every couple is very middle class or successful even the young hottie is a teacher and she is chef and no one is black or gay or fugly.... which is what real marriage is. Fat people not having sex or poor people having sex but no money to figure out why they just have sex and babies and can't be happy,. cause when you are poor you have a hard time worrying about that other shit. This is something I might watch if nothing else is on and thankfully a real marriage is on with Curb.. that is what its about....but I think perhaps I might find the therapist and her husband interesting if not her sessions but listening to them complain when they are not fucking bores me.

The market for that kind of show has to be huge and it's totally underserved. Wouldn't the poor all watch it, and then buy the products that were advertised? And the fat people? Maybe not the ugly ones, though, because nobody thinks they're ugly.

Virtually every scene was one that has happened during my marriage. Except for the last one, but if I'm getting blow jobs at 70, then there is a lot to look forward to. It wasn't flashy or exciting, but then again most marriages aren't. Kinda like a case study of how we view love in the different stages of our lives. Don't know if it's enough to make people tune in, but it was nice to see a little more of Penny from Lost.

The creator did such a good job of really nailing the insecurities of people in relationships. The problem is, who really wants to watch that on a TV show? Just because its realistic doesn't mean its entertaining.

The couple not having sex is believable, the young couple is, but the couple trying to have a baby doesn't seem as realistic. Dull couples whining about their relationships, punctuated by sex scenes that really weren't as groundbreaking as the publicity suggests. HBO should drop the pretense that this is a Serious Drama, cut out all the scripted stuff, and just do pure porn.
