This is the cover art for the season 4 DVD, which will be out on December 4th. I like that they included the "No
Corner Left Behind" tagline.

More good news. Season 5 will premiere on January 6th, according to The Washington Post. That's about 3 months
earlier than I was expecting.
Here's another great article about The Wire. Non-spoilery, except it does mention that certain character who will be appearing in season 5. The Wire This is my favorite part of the article, David Simon talking about the show:

Because i was bored last night i made some audio clips of my main main Kenard right here. I got to figure out a way to get these soundwaves on a gadget to
play out in the real world.

The above excerpt with Simon reinforces in my mind the intellectual component The Wire has that no other show even gets close to, no matter how high minded
they appear to be.
Like its predecessor, Homicide, The Wire is engaging on all levels and demands that the viewer be able to comprehend the deeper narrative. I will miss this show when it ends. |

David Simon shouldn't be so modest. The character of Stringer Bell seemed very much like a modern-day Iago and his undoing at the hands of Omar and Brother Mouzone (by way of Avon) was indeed, quite Shakespearean. It was a pleasure to watch that whole plot unfold (the scene where Avon and Stringer reminisce on their lives one last time - each knowing that their friendship had probably already ended, due to the tough decisions they had to make about each other - was one of the more poignant scenes from season 3). This is by far, HBO's best series and as much as I have questioned HBO's programming decisions, I'm glad that someone at the top decided to keep THE WIRE around. |

RIP BodieI'm still mourning the loss of Bodie. I have never before had this kind of reaction to a death of a character. |

Yeah, I'm sad about Bodie too. He was one of my favorites.
I have a feeling the body count for season 5 will be even higher. After all, if this is a Greek tragedy, I wouldn't expect too many characters to emerge unscathed. |

IMDB has the titles for all 10 episodes of season 5, for anyone who's interested. Along with the list of directors for all 10 episodes.
Title of the final episode is "The Life of Kings". |

This one made me laugh. It's a "deleted scene" from season 5, by David Simon. Don't worry, it's 100% spoiler-free.

If you want a sneak peek at the theme song for season 5, Steve Earle's new album comes out tomorrow and his version of "Way Down In The Hole" is
on it. It's the one being used for the opening credits of season 5.
I listened to it and it's pretty good. Season 4 is still my favorite, though. But this new one is definitely better than season 2 or 3 version. |

Found this little snippet about season 5 from an article at TV Tattle:
Also, reliable sources at HBO who have seen the next season, coming in January, say it's phenomenal. As if there was ever any doubt. |

I could subscribe to HBO just for the final season of THE WIRE.

Here's an awesome 12-page story from The New Yorker about David Simon, The Wire, and Simon's next series for HBO.
There are some spoilers for season 5, though, so be warned. It really is a must-read article though. The Man Behind The Wire

Thanks for posting that.
When I watched the premiere of K-VILLE, I couldn't help but think that in David Simon's hands this show would have the authenticity and the grit that it sorely missed. So it was wonderful to hear that he's working on a series set in New Orleans. You know I'll be checking on it. |

Only 10 episodes? WTF I need at least 13

I think 10 episodes is the standard for HBO now, since John from Cincinnati had a 10 episode season, and Tell Me You Love Me also has 10 episodes this season.
I'm looking forward to Simon's next series as well. It's a good time for him to launch a new series on HBO, with the network in a creative downturn. His shows bring prestige and critical acclaim to the network, which they desperately need at this point. |

Right now, Showtime & FX have better lineups than HBO. With SATC, Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome & Wire all gone, looks like HBO is in deep shit.

Maybe they will speed up development on the Song of Ice and Fire series, but I don't see how they can do it for
much less of a budget than what Rome cost.
I've heard good things about the new Alan Ball series True Blood.
