In any season without AP, Dick's rape threats and bullying would have sent him home. If even a fraction of that had been shown to viewers, the nasty stuff he said, not only the cute little moments we were supposed to love, he probably would have lost the AP vote. Only in the careful confines of Grodner's Donato worship did this plan work for him.

Dick's behavior on that night was remarkably similar to other periods in the house where he threatened to rape Jen and Kail, where he said he wanted to choke Jen to death, and where he poured tea on Jen. I see this more as his typical behavior than any great strategy. He stumbled into staying, as he always does, because the producers are terrified about the idea of having to work a show that is not taking place inside his hindquarters.

I'm not saying Dustin wasn't affected by Dick's bigotry and rape threats and all that, but I don't think this had anything to do with any of the strategy Dick intended.

We have NO idea if Eric and the DR would have successfully been able to prod an LNCer onto the chopping block had Dustin not volunteered himself, so we have to judge things based on what actually happened.

Based on how easily Eric managed to convince Jess to sell out her alliance and their jury votes, I think he would have convinced her. This is the woman who thought Dick and Dustin were in a secret alliance.

Dick also acted like he had nothing to do with Nick's ouster, when they all knew he did. Dick was so unstable and unreliable they had little reason to believe him.

They knew Eric was not completely trustworthy, but they also knew that they were no better off with Dick. How were they supposed to know about AP and that Eric was going to be the Donato family bitch?
