Diane and I used to live nearby in Buffalo Grove, and we ate at Jameson's about 3 times a month, sometimes 4. The portions are huge, you get both soup and salad and fresh-baked bread before the meal and everything is super tasty. Our secret was to order the chopped steak, at the time going for $9.99, no appetizers and iced tea to drink. Our bill was just over $27 and we were always full, taking something home in a container. Now that we don't live 5 minutes away we save Jameson's for special occasions and we splurge more when we go there. Favorite steakhouse I have eaten at, anywhere: Hereford House, Kansas City MO Whilst returning from a vacation in Colorado several years ago, we stopped for overnight lodging in Independence, MO, home of President Harry S. Truman. Now I knew that KC was a great steak town, so I asked the concierge at the hotel where he might reccomend we get some fantastic steak or barbequeue. Without hesitation, he told us to go to Hereford House, it was the best, we'd never forget it etc. So, off we went to the Hereford House, and man oh man this place is the cat's meow. Best steak I have ever eaten, by far. Sure, we spent $120 (a little more wine, my dear?), but it was sooooo worth it. If I'm ever in KC again, I'm going straight to this place. Steakhouse I most want to eat at but haven't yet: The Big Texan, Amarillo TX I've driven through here many times and I know the whole story about this place, but I've never eaten here. I want to though...Forget the 72oz steak in 1 hour! Just give me a good 24oz. Most overrated Chain Steakhouse: Ruth's Chris This place is not worth the heavily inflated, ala carte pricing they charge you for a steak dinner. The butter on the filet is a nice touch, but I was expecting better quality meat. Best Chain Steakhouse: Outback Steakhouse I like Outback. The steaks are fair dinkum, mate.

I've also had Morton's, in Minneapolis and that was most excellent. Have to give kudos to The Keg in Tacoma. So many steaks, so little time. And the wine!! We have a holeinthewall market, Omar's, that has the most scrumptious steaks, so the very best is at my parent's on the grill. With some velvety Fetzer.
