I think this is one of those FA signings everybody knew was terrible at the time except for the team doing so. It happens.

Matz, Harvey and Wheeler have had major injuries in the past 2-3 years. Why would you trade away the most durable pitcher of the staff? If he is to be traded, the package coming back will have to exceed what the Yankees got for trading Andrew Miller which included stud Clint Frazier.Mets lost 2 possible trade partners for other players. Bruce was thought to head to Toronto, but Toronto are sellers now, not buyers. Bruce can only be traded to one of 8 teams, so it seems he will stay. And the Yankees were a possible landing spot for Duda. But Yankees just acquired a AAA 1st baseman. I dont think any playoff team other than the Yanks need a 1B.Addison Reed is a goner. Every playoff team needs him.

You may be on to something about him being on the tail end of his prime per this graph, but his drop off has been so extreme and on the heels of such a run of good seasons that I'm not ruling out this being a blip on the radar.

came back from vavcay with the Mets having a chance to pull within 5 games of Rockies in loss column.
then Matz goes out and completely stinks up the joint.
my ears are still ringing from listening to all those "lets go Yankees" chants this weekend.
a lot of New York fans at Fenway.
