SurvivorNinja wrote:Dan Barry11th Place(Panama)Dan Barry is the only person who's even been to space that also has played Survivor. It's a pretty exclusive group. He starts his adventure after being dropped into a four-person older man tribe with an eccetric detoxing smoker, an adorbz zen art/karate teacher, and an ex-military pilot or something. He and Terry hit it off immediately because they're the two most boring guys on their tribe. The swap happens on day 4 and both Terry and Dan stay together on La Mina where they aquire a bunch of pretty young people and Ruth-Marie. My favorite thing about Dan is what a stealth leader game he was attempting to play, because had he not been on such a dying tribe I think Dan could have done VERY well for himself. He at least takes Sally's placement if not for the last pre-merge twist to send her to exile and avoid TC.So anyway. NuLa Mina is formed and the men all link up for an easy majority, all while being dreadfully boring and bringing nothing to the table except gameplay...so thank god I love that shit amiright? While Terry sits idle, stroking his idol, Austin and Dan compete on opposing sides for Terry's approval in carrying their respective designated females (Sally or Ruth) farther into the game as their 5th.Since Dan got to Terry first with his pitch for Ruth-Marie, and they've been together since day 1, surely our ex-pilot sided with his bff ftw. Wrong. Instead, Terry did agree to keep Ruth until he realized they were losing challenges badly and Sally would be more beneficial in that way, leaving Dan to turn around and inform Ruth she was being left out of the fold after promising her she wouldn't be. Lol oops <3K so that sucks, but whatever, we're two rounds from the merge that Dan will no doubt make since he has Sally as a buffer and after winning R5 IC he's looking pretty good. Wrong. Because production introduces a twist via exile island where the winning tribe gets to send the person of their choosing to exile, where they'll avoid TC and be safe from the vote. Casaya wins and picks Sally. :*( I remember at the time all of the promos and things were pimping Dan's TC as "THE MOST SHOCKING TC IN SURVIVOR HISTORY" so a lot of us thought some crazy shit was going down, or the idol would be played or *something*, but then the episode pretty much played out like this: - Sally obvz boot is obvz- immunity challenge- Sally exiled to safety- Shane bums smokes off village people- Austin targets Dan- Terry doesn't support Dan- Dan booted 3-1I mean, literally nothing shocking even happens in Ep6 of Panama (even tho it is a great ep), but lol nice job for trying.

286) Greg Buis
Borneo - 9th Place
Greg, like most of the Borneo cast, was an instant star and is now a classic character in the annals of Survivor history. He was the funny goofball, always there to crack a joke and lighten the mood, but he also had the survival skills to further prove his worth in camp. He also seemed to have a good understanding of the game, but found the idea of alliances boring. It’s been speculated what a Pagong endgame would look like, and I fully believe Greg would have the best chance to take the million in that scenario, and let me just say thank god that did not happen because he would’ve been an awful winner.
Greg’s whole schtick was that he was kind of a nutcase, doing shit like talking into coconut phones and being distracted by flying fish, and he was supposed to be a huge source of comic relief for Borneo. However, I only find him funny approximately 30% of the time, and most of his antics come off as incredibly forced and cringeworthy. Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t devoid of humor. Making incestuous jokes about his sister? Hilarious! Fake-crying in response to being voted out? Mmm, not so much. He reminds me of Cesternino in that he’s clearly desperate to get a laugh out of people, and he probably is a lot funnier in real life rather than an edited product for television, but overall his behavior is too cringey for me to love.
Greg was also a big proponent of the “alliances are EVIL” talk that was present in Borneo, particular amongst the Pagongs, and Borneo is the one season where I give this line of thinking a pass because the game was new and this was their world and they were creating as they saw it or whatever. I am, however, glad that strategy won the day because seeing Greg coast to the end by being “funny” and knowing how to sleep in the woods may very well have tanked the show. Greg, however, wasn’t just anti-alliance, but he was kind over the entire game from day one. There are alleged instances of Greg trolling the fuck out of production, like voting for Probst at one of Pagong’s Tribal Councils. I get the cast had no way of knowing exactly what they were getting into, but maybe try to appreciate the incredible opportunity rather than acting like a sour cunt about it?
After the merge, Greg either decided he did want to play the game or just mock the power structure by obviously flirting with Rich. It really wasn’t subtle because half the tribe commented on it in confessional. Rich once asked the tribe about their same-sex sexual encounters and Greg coyly avoided the question while being like “Oh I dunno” and winking. The edit also made it look like he was gunning for Colleen because he made this creepy, out-of-place speech about cutting off your kitten’s head for food, idk.
Greg’s behavior and “I’m over it” attitude really just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. He tries to act like he’s a little off his rocker, but you can tell everything he does it carefully calculated for the cameras. I much prefer my crazies to be naturally so (Shane, Sandy, Linda), but Greg’s brand of looney is too forced.
He recently came back into the spotlight when he was rumored to be on the Second Chances ballot, but I think he had to drop out last minute? I wouldn’t mind seeing Greg again after all these years, but I do fear he’d be disinterested in the game, especially in it’s current form, and just be kind of a wasted spot.
