After last night there's been even more talk than normal about possible hallucinations, or a normal flashback with Desmond being unconscious, to deny the "Final Destination" aspect. etc.
People are trying desperately to rationalize the lastest episodes to conform to what they suspected the show was going to be like back in season 1.
I'll mention one simple thing.
If he's just unconsciousness or hallucinating, how did he end up outside the hatch? It's impossible.
The hatch imploded.
Implosion implies that he couldn't have been launched from the hatch. He would have been crushed to oblivion. From posts I've read alot of people don't seem to understand the concept of 'magnetic implosion.'
Maybe the other people in the hatch got out somehow and we didn't see it, but Desmond couldn't have.
It implies that exactly what everyone is dreading: Either -- He survived by breaking the fabric of time, and he'd do this most likely by jumping back in time to the exact point when the button in the hatch began being pushed. And that's the purpose of the hatch or hatches. To control time.
Or: The producers are playing a huge game with the hardcore viewing audience and denying their theories blue in the face but in the end the Losties are in purgatory and Desmond and company got re-introduced to the island because they didn't fully exorcise their past demons.
Personally I don't think it's this because before he turned the key Desmond DID seem to exorcise his demons.
The time travel aspect works. And it's now been implied so many different times on the island. From the most recent, "Only fools are enslaved by time and space."
Of course. Everything is going to be left completely open until basically the final episode as to whether it's science or all involving 'god's will'. Because that's the purpose of the show.
But the idea their these people are just on some "bizarre island" where different types of crazy things happen and they need to get off, no longer works. And it hasn't for a long time.
