I don't think there is any sort of mind control or brainwashing going on, and I'm not sure Michael knew that Henry was even there or that they had met before. Those questions were left open. As for Henry knowing that Michael was coming to shoot "bad" people, as someone mentioned above, that sounds farfetched as well. Nobody, including Michael, knew that Ana had the gun in the hatch.

Here's how I read what happened with Michael. He was bribed, plain and simple. The Others found him in the jungle looking for Walt, which has been the sole meaning of his existence this season, and they told him (likely in captivity) that if he ever wanted to see Walt again he would follow their instructions closely. The plan was to send him to the Losties (as a backup plan to Henry Gale) and set a trap to lure out Jack and Kate and Locke and anyone else that is mucking up the Dharma operations. It might have something to do with the button, I don't know. But something is keeping the Others from coming to that side of the island en masse (sickness, magnetic field, security system?), and something else makes it critical to infiltrate the Losties (experimentation, perhaps).

Here are the clues:

Michael was very quick to start sharing details about how harmless the Others were. Starting in on how primitive and vulnerable they are right after regaining consciousness? I don't think so. But he didn't have a clear idea of how to orchestrate the trap until he saw that Ana had the gun. For all he knew the guns were still in the armory, and after his previous wig out and gun theft there is no way Jack and Locke would trust him immediately. He had no idea that Sawyer was in charge of the guns, and he was not the person who put himself in the position to be alone in the hatch with a gun and a woman with a bruised ego looking for redemption. Being alone in the hatch was Ana's idea.

Michael was an opportunist last night. He seemed genuinely surprised that there was an Other being held in the armory. He saw the gun, he quickly got information on where it came from, and he recognized that he may not have another chance to wrestle control away from one of the Losties. I don't think he was sent there to kill. That was just a consequence of the situation, set in motion by Ana stealing the gun, by Locke concealing the attack on Ana from everyone else, and by Ana volunteering to stay behind and watch Michael. Michael had no control over those events, nor did Henry. He simply capitalized on the circumstances, and the prize for him was that Henry's presence gave him the perfect goat. That's why he made it look like an escape, so he could further his agenda of pleasing the Others and acting as a spy. The incident was a poorly planned attack gone awry, like something out of a Tarantino movie, not a preconceived idea.

First Ethan, then Henry, and now Michael. Those Others sure are relentless. Now just when is someone going to stop trusting anything they say. Michael is being played as well. "They'll never give up Walt."

If they were smart they would analyze the crime scene and throw Michael in the armory. And he better hope Libby is dead or she'll rat him out. Oh yeah, and Kate and Jack both know that the primitive appearance of the Others is just theatrics. Connect the dots, sillies. Michael's story does not add up.
