During the episode, Locke brings Ben (he's imprisoned in the hatch at this time) a copy of Dotoyevsky's (sp?) "The Brothers Karamazov". They then have the following exchange:
Locke: Thought you might like something to read.
Ben: Dotoyevsky...You don't have any Stephen King?
Locke: Mm-mm. Library's a little outdated.
Ben: Right. Well, thanks.
At the time, the little Stephen King comment seemed like nothing. But there have been other Stephen King references relating to the Others that make the author seem like a central figure to the Others.
I'm mainly refering to the opening scene of Season 3, with Juliet's book club. They were reading Carrie, and apparently Ben "would never allow" such a book to be chosen for discussion, and thought it was trash. This seemed to symbolize the disunity among the Others...but why do they care so much about Stephen King? Are we supposed to care about him for some reason?
MINOR SPOILER: As I recall, Ausiello indicated the Stephen King book might play a role in tonight's episode...so I figured I'd bring that up now so people might be on the lookout for it.
But yeah, anyone know what's up with Stephen King and the Others?
