For what it's worth (probably not much) 'E.D.O.C' is a medical abbreviation for 'Expected Date Of Confinement'

D.O.C. is also a medical abreviation for Date of Conception. Meaning it's very important for Sun to know her D.O.C. ie was the baby conceived before the crash (lover's baby) or after the crash (Jin's baby). If it's lover's baby then all is well & Sun will live. If it's Jin's baby then Sun's in big trouble, at least according to Juliet.

English father and a Jamaican mother, according to her biography at IMDB. I saw her on Las Vegas...and she also starred in The Haunted Mansion with Eddy Murphy. |

Sun wouldn't have had to conceive with Jin on the island. It could have been right before the flight or maybe a mile high club deal.
The mother dies at conception, so she would have died at that time. And since they were not really speaking to each other after the crash, I don't think they were having sex. |

Juliet: I think it happens at conception. And if that's the case there's nothing I can do about it. At least not here.
I think the "sickness" happens at conception, not that the mother dies right at conception. From One of Us, it seems Juliet had time to experiment with Sabine (?) before she died. We weren't given a specific time period, so I suppose the question still stands if Sun got pregnant before or after the crash. Btw, the lady who died is listed as Sabine (not Savine, Savinne, whatever) at Lost-Hatch. Not that it matters. |

I thought Juliet was doing an artificial insemination - like she did with her sister. The woman on the operating table didn't have a belly. How else would she know that the death occurs at conception if she wasn't right there witnessing a conception?
As I understood it, the women on the island can't conceive (a way of nature protecting) and that is why Juliet was brought there in the first place. |

naomi's black or half-black? jiggawha? she looked like maybe darker latin to me, like nelly-furtado-like or something, but my tv doesn't get the best reception so whatevs.
my theory on sun: maybe jin is the father, but i think whatever happened to them before "the crash" and "waking up", she was impregnated on purpose to again test pregnancy on the island, and thus she will be central to the entire show's "answer". |

lmolm - your theory makes sense. If she survived the insemination she will become very important and anyone could be the father - even Ben.
But I don't think Naomi's race is important - the actress is 1/2 black, 1/2 white if that helps. I don't think it has anything to do with the plot, except that she may be portraying a Brazilian and as we know, Brazilians come in many colors. |

Re: 4/25/07 Ep18 "D.O.C." | ||
Quote: I thought the woman on the operating table had a belly but it was kinda hard to tell since they had her cut open. Death does not occur at conception. All of the women that conceived on the island have not survived. However, Claire (who conceived before she arrived on the island) gave birth to Aaron just fine. Therefore, Juliet seems to have figured out that whatever goes wrong happens at conception. This makes Sun's date of conception (DOC) very important as it will tell us whether or not she's likely to die somewhat soon due to her pregnancy. |
