Jeffs "No talking" and if its fair... |
Lead | |
|
A few times in past seasons Jeff has said to the tribe "no talking" either before the get to tribal or at tribal when they are about to vote. Most
recentlty it happened in Fiji in the michelle boot episode. After the tribe lost the challenge when jeff dismissed them he said "no talking". If this
is reality how can he tell them to not talk and what are the consequences if they do? If I was someone at risk id say screw you I am strategizing right now.
Couldnt the tribe have said jeff were not going anywehre until we get the chance to strategdize? Inst tellign them no talking interferring with the game? If
Michelle did get to talk she could have saved herself before tribal! I realizxe that during tribal she had the opportnity to speak up but she (and anyone in
this situation) should be able to speak up whenever they want if this is reality. What do you think?

If the rule is "no talking," that sounds perfectly fair to me. No way to enforce it, and really ballsy players can take advantage of that (at their
own risk), but keeping the players from forming on-the-spot plans is sometimes part of special twists, and I understand the need for it.

Not being allowed to talk and strategize when he says so I doubt is a rule. I jsut think it went a little to far. Also isnt keeping them from forming on the spot plans interferring? I mean if contestants are not allowed to react to a twist naturally than I dont think its fair. |

The reason for the "No Talking" rule is to keep players from playing the game off-camera. Like when people are voting during TC and the cameras
aren't capturing everything. More importantly, they're not allowed to talk on the way to TC.
P.G. admitted she should have broke the rules and told James to play his Idol when he was voted out in China. (And I don't think she would have faced any backlash from production for doing so. And yes, Erik's idiotic vote would have fucked him. |

2 rules doesn't literally mean 2 rules. Like, you can't just switch tribes whenever you wanted.
If it's part of a twist, then they have oblige. You can't refuse to pick a buff out of the urn or vote for youself at TC. The Fiji final 10 twist was to create chaos at TC, so there was a no talking rule. Which was enforced by the castaways being monitored and blindfolded until they got to TC. |

voting someone out. (And it's the reason we'll never see a "Swap every episode" season.)
Had Fiji just been a team post-merge immunity challenge, with 5 people winning immunity but all 10 going to TC, it actually would have been a really cool
twist.

but there is a consequence! Thats why I was askiing about if there would be a consequence! For the buff and voting for yourself -yes there would definitley be
consequnces that would keep you from doing so, however a consequence for "no talking", im not so sure!

If it would help me, I would totally talk during the no talking rule when others are voting. They have cameras on ever person sitting there so they can have
their "I'm bored" face or their "I'm nervous face"
And they must have talked in the past on the walk over, I remember some story from Australia where they talked on their walk/suv ride to tribal council to finalize the vote. Maybe early on at an Ogakor tribal council. How often has Jeff Probst said no talking on camera though? The only time I can remember is the Fiji one. |

Actually, the no talk rule is in effect a lot of times.
- During the whole pre-game time. - Every time they arrive at a challenge site, they shouldn't talk except to answer Jeff's formulaic questions - Once they leave the camp to go to TC until the time Jeff addresses them. - As soon as Jeff says it's time to vote, they have to be quiet. (Jason took a chance and got away with it probably because Jeff hadn't finished talking.) All the time that Jeff tallies the votes and then reads them, the players have to be quiet. They are only allowed a short goodbye to the booted player. They must also remain quiet until they return to camp so that the cameras can get the first shock expressions in a camp setting rather than in the middle of the jungle. The consequences for disobeying can range from an amused smile to a sharp retort up to an immediate removal from the game. Not everyone takes the chance. |

Yeah, I hate when Survivor tries to put on a "serious" esque mood, it gets so cheesy, and really, it would be more entertainment if they let the
contestants actually react. The no talking thing is pretty lame, and even though this discussion is a year late, Michelle got screwed pretty hard

Aren't reality and show oxymorons?!!

Cuz they don't want the audience to know that the castaways don't really take the "long and dreaded hike to tribal council." ;) |

I also thought you were not supposed to interact with jury members.
Yet so many people do. Adam-Candice Earl-Michelle Todd whispering burn to the jury. |

Todd and Courtney also communicated with James and Frosit quite a bit by exchanging faces and smiles etc. The most obvious was when PG was talkign about being
postive and courtney was making "yeah right" faces to James.

Why couldn't Rich give that necklace to Jenna (right wasn't it Jenna?) but in the new age of Survivor you can do whatever you want. I understand not letting them talk to and from tribal council, especially from, but I say making comments to somebody during the voting phase should be totally allowed.Just imagine somebody is about to get up and the person next them is pretty sure they are going to go and whispers "Don't screw me" it would just be a great moment. |
