Is the Race overregulated? |
Lead | |
|
First of all, like almost everyone here, I want the Fast Forward to be brought back on every leg. Having it on two legs in the hope that a certain team finds
it is utter bullshit. Also,I think yields, uturns or anything else similar should be available on every leg. Also, I dislike how each team member has to
complete an equal number of roadblocks. It may weed out the weaker teams, but it dispurs team freedom and the potential for great moments. Flos breakdowns in
the last episodes would of never happened had TAR3 follwed these rules. In addition, I dislike the penelties you get for coming in last on a non elimination
leg. They are pointless and rarely hinder the teams anyway. The NELs are in place to give some teams a lucky break. I hope they come back for TAR13. Finally,
I want the teams to have more freedom in running the leg. I heard you're not even aloowed to borrow a strangers cell phone for assistence, why not?

1. Fast Forward should come back in every leg. When it's only on one leg, it's like there's next to no reason NOT to go for it.
2. Yields and U-Turns should NOT be on every leg. This ain't Survivor. The yield/u-turn has made the game less about racing and more about strategy, and we've got plenty of other reality shows if we want strategy. 3. The NEL penalties should stand so that a team that gets saved isn't getting off scot-free. 4. And fuck no. The roadblocks need to be divided. You think it's fair for a team like Linda & Karen to have to do all the roadblocks in the race while the guy on all the other teams just does it while they're female partner sits back? The previous roadblock rule was unfair to female teams, so they changed it. |

2.The fast forward is used just as much for stratagy(in the early seasons anyway) as the yield and uturn are, so why not have it on every leg? They are
inexpensive, don't have to be shown on every episode, and add another dimension to the race.

1. Should have way more than just two on the entire race if not on every leg. having like, 5 or 6 (need not be a fixed number), teams will really need to think
whether they should go for it or save it for another opportunity later - barely this step ever needs to be considered with just two. n maybe it should
still discourage teams to be completely reliant on the chance that they can grab the Fast Forward (like Millie & Chuck and Steve & Dave did) when they
see themselves screwing up the tasks for the leg.
2. Yields/U-Turns - No comment. 3. NEL penalties - Speed Bump was a good change but the tasks themselves have to be really significant in its purpose to pull a team's position down. 4. Hell no on removing the six (or equal no. of) Roadblocks rule. I just HATE it when ALL of the final 3 teams in Season 5 just threw in the male member to do the Roadblocks while Linda & Karen (definitely as shown in statistics), Charla & Mirna (Charla performed more eventually, but Mirna would definitely have to do more of the remaining Roadblocks had they gone further), Kami & Karli (although Kami seemed more dominant) and even "a little of" Bob & Joyce [and possibly Jim & Marsha] had themselves taking turns and struggled. What totally turned me off was Nicole's ["Is it you.... or is it you?" to Brandon in New Zealand (just before going to Manila)] and Kim's [shaking her head n pointing to Chip even before they finish reading some of the Roadblock clues] refusals to do the Roadblocks, especially the last few legs (since they each completed one by then). My guess is that the previous unknown rule required every team member has to perform the minimum of only ONE roadblock in order to qualify for the final 3/winning team. |

4.Who are you to decide whats fair?WTF? This is so freaking stupid especially since the thread topic is a question asking for our opinions and then when someone gives their ideas/opinions, you shoot them down. -_- F/f teams have won twice in the asian editions,so thats proof that we don't need engineering.Yeah. And are you saying there wasn't a 6/6 Roadblock in that season(s)? And it's only ONE Asian Season. The other one was won by an all-male team. 3.But thats what the NELs are for. They are second chancesYes, they ARE second chances but there's no free lunch in the world and it gives teams the pressure of not coming in last in ANY leg of the race, even if they are 100% sure it's a NEL because they know there will be a spillover effect for subsequent leg(s). The Speed Bump is IMO, the best penalty so far. It just has to be a little fairer in terms of when it occurs and how time consuming the task(s) is/are. I don't think the producers should be trying to engineer a f/f winHow the hell is this so if they just make sure team partners do EQUAL amount of Roadblocks and the other racer don't just slack his/her butts off?! Ultimately, it just makes the game fairer so that girls are forced to do tasks and especially prevents couple teams to have the male do ALL the work and those who are female/female are at a major disadvantage when it comes to a physical task. |

The difference is that a fast forward only benefits a team and the only way it can possibly hurt a second team is if two go for it and one team doesn't get
it. The yield/u-turn basically screws over a team that may be having a bad leg, which is why a small number of yields and u-turns is better.

The NELs shouldn't have any penelty because the team that comes in last is likely to screw up again, and if not, who cares? TAR is not a sport or something glorius. There are a huge amount of variables in a race around the world. Telling me whats fair is ludicrous. If it wasn't the female teams that screwed up, some other team would,is that fair? Why should the producers rig the show for you? Why should they do anything but try to deliver the maximum amount of entertainment? TAR3 was the best season we've ever had, which greatly had to do with Flo. If there were 6/6 rbs on that season or a penelty for coming in last, they probably wouldn't have won. Wouldn't you rather have them win then the m/m teams that this forum seems to hate so much? |

I'd rather have EITHER of the other two teams that Flo & Zach beat, because Flo is one of the most undeserving winners of all time, topped only by
Freddy & Kendra.

I don't think the roadblock rule is really that big of a deal. A lot of the roadblocks are luck based, or simply don't require much physical or mental
strength.
Let's go over Season 5, since that is the season everyone complains about: Leg 1: No Roadblock Leg 2: Removing a bandana from the neck of a calf. You could argue that there was some running involved here, but basically anyone could have done this(other than Charla). Leg 3: Completely luck based eating roadblock. Anyone could have done this. Leg 4: Eating task. Christie and Nicole did this one, anyway Leg 5: Descend in to a shaft and retrieve some puzzle pieces. Some physical strength involved climbing the ladder and carrying the puzzle Leg 6: Look for a scarab in sand. Another luck based challenge. Leg 7: Eating Task. Colin did this, and he had a lot of trouble. Christie would not have performed much worse Leg 8: The unaired roadblock. Don't know exactly what is was, but apparently it had something to do with searching for a nut and delivering it to someone. No physical skills involved. Leg 9: Brick building task. More skill than strength Leg 10: Walk in a zorb. Leg 11: Climbing a ladder and retrieving a flag. Some physical skill involved Leg 12: This is the hard roadblock, which the men clearly had an advantage in. So now let's count. The roadblocks in leg 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 10 were not physically difficult at all. If the roadblock rule was in effect in season 5, Christie, Kim and Nicole could have easily done those roadblocks just as well as the men. If you want to argue that Kim would not have done as well in the two eating tasks as Chip, the other roadblocks weren't that difficult, either. |

The equal number of Roadblocks is the only rule change that was for the better. The race is meant to be done by a team; as much as I love Flo and Zach, I
wouldn't want to see one person carry their teammate to the end every season like that.
Yields/U-Turns are lame but they can occasionally provide for decent moments, and at least made Lorena/Jason more sympathetic and likable than your average mactor couple. So one or two per season is a fair amount. |

ATF, there was an unaired roadblock in final leg of season 5. Which the men assembled a teepee.

If there is something that should be brought back on a regular basis, is the Fast Forward.
I will agree with the 6 per team member rule on the Roadblock. It is a fair thing since the majority of the Roadblocks in TAR5 final 3 was done by Chip, Brandon and Colin. Like what beatles20147 said "the race is meant to be done as a team." It also challenges the teams to decide which team member can do the Roadblock best. |

As mentioned before, I dun really like having the Fast Forward on every leg but neither do I like it having only two on the race.

I have to say that getting rid of the Roadblock rule would just encourage a male/female team to never have the female do any of the tasks.
Smelly Hippie Bitch, as terrible as she was, was able to do 6 roadblocks as was KKKendra and Joyce. There are easier roadblocks for a reason. |

If they want a f/f team to win so badly, they need more competent teams. There is no proof that forcing each team to do the same amount of RBs helps f/f teams. Wouldn't you rather have them win then the m/m teams that this forum seems to hate so much? yeah it's just plain old stupid to take off the 6 roadblock rule. Not having it wasn't more "fun" it was just unfair to the guys in the m/f teams because they had to do all of them. Heck, if season 3 had the roadblock rule in place we'd have even greater Flo breakdowns without having to bitch about her winning. the 6 roadblock rule isn't some devious tool for the producers to support a f/f team, it's for the game to be fair to everyone in the race. And the teams do decide for themselves how to divide up the roadblock, even moreso because of the roadblock rule, without it, there would be a lot less decision making at roadblocks. If you want entertainment, cast entertaining teams. and yeah get your facts straight, the 2 asia seasons had the 6 roadblock rule not to mention only the first season had a f/f win. plus there's no proof of the producers wanting so bad to have an all-female team win, in case you didn't notice none of them even made the final 5 last season and they still always cast only 3 of them each season, which the same cannot be said of the 2nd Asia season.

1. Have Mama Paolo become apart of the last place team on a NEL.

Well, rewatching the previous seasons, I can say that TAR12 is actually way better than the previous ones. The penalty is great and the minimal number of FF is
just fine for me. I just think that U-TURN is too harsh that it can spoil the thrill of the entire leg especially if the two locations of the detour are far
apart. I hope they just use it to a relatively easy detour tasks so that the victim of the u-turn won't have a very hard time catching up. And also, I want
the "that allows them to eat, sleep and mingle with the other teams" back. It would be fun to see the teams interact as non-racers. Hahahaha!!!

I have said this for years.............. | ||

I have said the FF need to be on legs 5 - 8 for years. The game with in the game is the FF. The reason the FF is only on two legs is because CBS wanted the
budget of the show cut and this was the way to do it.
As for the yield I think it needs to come once on one of the legs 7 - 9. The yield only works for the bottom feeders so the leg it comes up on needs tobe latter in the race so people will use it for sure. When the Yield comes soon no one uses it. As for all the other lame twists, I think none have worked thus far season after season. I think each leg should have one adrenalin task and one cultural in the Detour and Roadblock. If you look at season 1- 4 the tasks were much more exciting than in seasons 7 and on. Season 5 and 6 had just enough but still lacked. In the end The Amazing Race needed to take some cues from the way Survivor re invented its self year after year............
