Nuthin' much happening tonight. just getting introduced to the group. They're still nuts and include 2 guys who failed last year -- one guy who almost died when he refused to turn back, despite the orders of the head tour guy at base camp and an asthmatic, who still insists he can make it to the top without oxygen. Looking forwrd to seeing what happens to this group. And all in glorious HD. |

cool for the bump I definately have a fascination for Russell Brice.... His voice is commanding, his expertise is overwhelming, and if you have any desire to reach the summit of the Chinese ruled Tibetan summit of Mount Everest...He is the person you would want your life in the hands of. This is a great series for any amateur climber to aspire to.... I have had many conversations with RB...he is very unwilling to come to the US... He lives in France and almost cannot leave the mountains and terrois that he loves. I would love him to voice over the mountain climbing experience as a series or the climbing experience as the owner and almost founder. But he is not an attention hog. He loves the ascent and descent of Mount Everest. The people that give their lives bother him, over and over. To say that he is absolutely fascinating...is beyond comprehension...he knows a culture that is absolutely foreign by their own right. He knows their language and is also one of their own. Mr. Brice works with any one country during any one day. He is content living in France and still...his expeditions are legendary. I believe he has led over 170 people to the summit (maybe more to this day)... and continue on...for maybe his last year.. ? The casualty rate for RB is legendary, in that, in all of his expeditions, only one Tibetan guide has lost his life falling off of a face of Everest... |

I think the climb from Nepal (south side) is more interesting. I'm interested in seeing how that chick does...she seems really healthy, but ya never know.
My guess is that big dude won't make it again.

Read "Into Thin Air" - you'll feel differently about the "adventurers"Duh. hello? Read it when it first came out in hardback and listened to every interview Krakauer gave at the time. The topic of Everest absolutely fascinates me, including the crazy adventurers who pay an arm and a leg to try to summit. I don't agree with what they're doing. I'm just fascinated that they do it. |

So why did they let LA dude with busted up legs try again when he almost got himself killed last time?
And Russell always has said that anyone who does not listen to him and turn around when told will NEVER be on his expeditions again. |

On Discovery.com watch the previous show and clips...
For one, you will be hooked, once finding out what an extremist climber is willing to go through to get to the 'top of the world'...and b) the people that want to actually aclimate and assimilate to these high altitudes are both interesting and absolutely crazy. and 3...I believe they also pay up to and more than $60k to take about 3-6 months off, to be with the best of the best hikers in the world, and get their oxygen regulated, with the altitude. This also has nothing to do with the ascent and the rest of the tour, or descent, and the money compounds due to many factors : length of tour is the biggest factor - everyone's body is different and each has a different conversion rate due to body weight, actual length of study, ability, etc.. (and yah...I meant to do the 1, b and 3 btw...) |

This guys are officially nuts, especially the asshole from LA who's trying for the 2nd time with pins all over his body from a near-fatal motorcycle
accident. He fell 90 minutes outside camp on his final ascent and is trying to summit with a broken right hand. My husband just endured a hairline fracture
of his hip, so I'm recognizing the moaning screams coming from the pain of a broken bone. But still he won't give up, putting himself and his team in
jeopardy (well since he's appearing on the After the Climb show, I guess he doesn't die)

He is a bit of jerk. But I was really happy when he summitted. And he came clean with his guide who thought he could make it and encouraged him to do so.
The kid I really like is Mogens(?) he's tried 3 times to summit without oxygen and finally accepted the fact that if he wants to see the top of Everest he has to use oxygen. His summit attempt is next week. |

I was kinda glad he summited as well. I was fascinated to learn that most of the death, however, occur on the descent, rather than the ascent. And man
all those pins he had in his hand as a result of the break. (either that or he has a pin-happy orthopedic surgeon).

Is season 2 already done with? I need Tivo this one too since I watched all of season 1, but never caught any of 2. In general, I think that those people are
all crazy.
