Eight top chefs from around the country will compete to join the ranks of Mario Batali, Cat Cora, Bobby Flay and Masaharu Morimoto and be launched into instant fame. Tripe, catfish and bacon desserts. This should be an interesting watch. I'm rooting for Besh all the way. Glad to see Symon stayed. I like him too. Tracy beat Mario Batali in an Iron Chef showdown. Surprised she was first to go. I expected the blonde to bite it.

They're looking for the next Iron Chef. All the challengers are past winners on Iron Chef America looks like, so they have the chops. Alton Brown is the host. 1000x better than the "hosts" on Top Chef. edited to add: ok not all of them are past winners, but 6 of them have competed and 3 of those have won or drawn against the iron chef. Gavin and Jill haven't competed on the show from what I've seen, but they are superstars in food. Jill has been a guest or competed in many food network shows and challenges. Right now, the favorite seems to be Besh. (and they showed his battle against Batali immediately before the premiere...foreshadowing?) I enjoyed the challenges, especially the fact that the "quick challenge" tested real skill in the kitchen and was interesting to watch. (Expose the rusty chef with lots of kitchen help - cute). I love Alton Brown, the judges were decent and the chefs are ALL worthy. Good times.

I expect to see Hung guest some day on Iron Chef...still remember him cutting up that chicken...

I don't think Des Jardaines is rusty so much as tired after years of service.I'm sorry she was first to go she is well loved here in the Bay Area.

I loved the 1st ep and have it tivo'd so I don't forget to watch it. I'm going with Besh all the way. But we'll see. Have always loved Besh. The man's a Marine, for God's sake--Semper Fi! (And he wasn't a cook in the Marines, either.) Jill Davie initially looked the weakest, but I'm so used to edgic at this point that I figured she'd win the first comp. Boo hiss re Traci Des Jardins leaving. WTF was up with the CIA--the air conditioning obviously didn't work (resulting in a Howie-Uncle Fester amount of sweat), the ice cream machine didn't work, and and the *freezer* was at 48 degrees? I've eaten at the CIA (American Bounty and Escoffier; I don't like Colavita) at least 5-6 times a year for the last several years, and their physical plant has never seemed to me to be lacking.
