What would you have done with the $5m if he had left it in your bank account?

I don't think it was anywhere near that amount. I mean he's getting out six years early - that was incentive enough to go along with the con. Was Clementine supposed to stumble on the account when she was finally old enough to open an account? Or was somebody going to tip off her mother along the line. What if they moved away from Wherever, Arizona and setled in Seattle or Detroit - will that money sit there forever? What if she just went to a different bank?

Sounded like the IRS wanted $5 million I guess, although I can't remember if the original $10 mil was stolen or just unreported income from some illicit endeavor. Sawyer's cut would have been a small portion of that, although I can't imagine the justice system offering him cash and release from jail. If it's anything like a Realtor's fee it would be in the 4 to 6% range, minus a cut for the prison. So maybe a couple of $100k max to Sawyer.

From the web -
The (NASA) project was named Clementine after the song "Oh My Darling, Clementine" as the spacecraft would be "lost and gone forever" following its mission. linky link |
