He lives in Canberra, but I'm flying into Sydney and we'll be there a few days. I want to go to Brisbane to see some friends, and go to Cairns to go find Nemo in the Great Barrier Reef. But I'm supposed to figure out what and where I want to go - because this Qantas ticket from LAX-Sydney has 3 inside Australia flights. So, any suggestions what I should go see? Feed the dolphins, hang out on the beach, parasail, jet ski, snorkeling and diving, whale watching, go sand tobaganning down a dune the size of a football field. It's a little over an hour away from Brisbane, so if you're in that area already, you might as well go.

The Tangalooma thing sounds awesome! I wanted to go scuba diving in the GBR, but I have asthma and apparently they wont' let me do it.

You may also be able to do dolphin feeding at Moreton Island, I think they still do it in August. If you're not too fussed about a raving nightlife, I'd stay in Port Douglas rather than Cairns if I were you. It's a lot nicer, and closer to the reef. As for Steve Irwin, well he's dead as well all know, but his zoo is still going. It's about 1 hour north of Brisbane, and is worth a visit to see all the weird and wonderful animals Australia has. Try and stay away from Canberra if you can - it's cold, and very dull.

I don't care how much it costs, it's totally worth it. It's especially cool if you time it so that you get to see the sunset. Then you get to wear the neat little miner's lamp on your head. The Taronga Zoo in Sydney was something I also enjoyed. I did some day trips to the wine country and the caves which were a lot of fun but you might not have that much time. The Opera House is a must-see and I thought the tour was pretty good. I went back in 2002 so it's been a while but I loved it. Sydney is a beautiful city and I thought the people were the friendliest I've ever encountered on a trip.

Lone Pine is not outside of Brissy, it's at Fig Tree Pocket - an inner suburb, but forget about buses and all that, I'll drive you there. It's pretty good. My kids like it there too. Tangalooma is definitely worth a trip too. So from Sydney you'll need a flight to Brisbane, another to Cairns, and then back. I would also recommend you go to Uluru (formerly Ayers Rock). How long will you be here for? <-- prepares to roll out the red carpet...

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately that's where my friend lives (he works for the gov't). So we'll be there. He stays with a buddy down at "the coast" as he calls it (somewhere about 1.5 hours east of Canberra), and goes fishing. But I'm going to try to stay as far up north as we can so I don't freeze to death! Port Douglas is a good idea - yeah, we're not doing much nightlife stuff, so better to be cheaper. I'm probably going to have to skip Ayers Rock this time around - money is going to be a bit tight. I know I'll need a lot, but my friend will pay for stuff, although he's acting now like he won't so he makes sure I save up enough $$. The way it's looking now is Sydney Brissy Cairns Canberra (then drive back to Sydney to send me back home) Do the BridgeClimb in Sydney. I was going to do this (my friend refuses too), but I realize it is expensive AND I'm deathly scared of heights. I freaked out going to the Eiffel Tower, and climbing to the top of the Capitol in Washington DC (the Congressman I worked for had to hold my hand). Hell, I freak out DRIVING across the Mackinac Bridge! So I'm thinking that may be out. Definiately doing the Opera House - no matter how touristy it is.
