I just felt that I should make a thread for this guy in case he actually sticks around for a while...which he has the potential to do. FINALLY, an East Coast male singer that I actually like! (Which probably means he'll be cut at the first round of the Top 200.) For anyone who doesn't recall, he was the really polite guy who was really proud of being from Cape Breton. I actually don't remember too much else about him besides the fact that I really liked his voice and style. Thoughts?

I actually think he kinda sucked. I think his voice is kinda average but I'm willing to keep my mind open about him and see what he has to offer in the Top 22 if he gets there. |

I just watched all three episodes last night. I liked this guy.
As I've never seen CI before, someone is going to have to fill me in on the east coast and newfie, etc. comments I've seen in the threads. Has there been some issue with regional partisanship or bias in the past? |

Canada is full of regional based voting. It typically affects the competition throughout but especially in the semi rounds where a lot of times, crappy people from certain regions of the country make it through on the basis that they are from there. The Maritimes (Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick) Newfies (Newfoundland and Labrador) Praries (Saskachewan) These are the main groups that get through sometimes very far. But never have won. Quebec, British Columbia, and Manitoba don't do very well at all, although one winner was from Quebec. These are the provinces that don't make a huge impact although they have produced Top 10 contestants. Ontario and Alberta do well in the end, producing 2 winners each. These provinces have fared the best in the end, although being from Ontario in the semis is a very dangerous thing due to strong regionals from a lot of other places and Ontario doesn't do much of that until the latter part of the comp when their respective city or area backs them (Brian CI5). Hope this helps, I'm sure if I missed something, someone else will fill in the gaps. |

People from any province other than the ones mentioned under regional voting have to get huge Country wide support to win. Which is why we have 2 winners from
Ontario, 2 from Alberta and 1 from Quebec. They picked up Country wide support and in the end managed to overcome the regional voting, even though it lasted
throughout the entire competition with 3 of the 5 runner ups being from Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
Like Miki said it's the worst in the semis, people from Ontario basically only manage to make it through because there are so many of them in the Top 22 since the largest turn out is at the Ontario audition because of the larger population. If ON only had 2 or 3 contestants like other provinces in the semis they'd probably be shut out completely. If you're from a non-regional voting region of the Country you basically have to work that much harder and be exceptional to do well and gain support whereas people from NS, NL and NB have skated by in the past and robbed more deserving contestants just because they were from those provinces. NL is notoriously the worst for regional voting, they've had 2 2nd place contestants who had no business in the F2 at all and they would have won if not for a huge vote against effort on the part of the rest of the Country and the fact that the person they were up against in both cases was far, far, far more talented and showed it. The voting for CI is what kills the show every time. You see such great talent and you get so excited in the early rounds every season but then the voting kills it. We have a ton of shocking and ridiculous boots on the show and it's mostly due to the people who vote regionally, and fangirls who vote for cute guys. You thought at the Archie fangirls were bad for AI, well at least he can sing, watch out for CI fangirls b/c they don't even both to pick cute guys or guys with talent. They pick really fugly, talentless hacks and latch on to them. They're also notorious for picking guys who look like totally trannys. |

I have my favorite First person to ever sing a Elliot Smith song on Idol. And I have a feeling, after what he said about loving mellow music that tells a good story, he's gonna be singing all my favorites this season. If he lasts that is. Mitch to win!!!!! |

This guy is like a frankenstein monster made up of past CI contestants (like they put Ryan Malcolm, Brian Melo, Josh Palmer and Jacob Hoggard in a blender)
which is not really a bad thing. He'll probably go far.

The more I think about it, the more I'm believing Sass's "dark horse" prediction.
I know it's only been one episode but I'm getting a "Survivor Speculation" winner's edit vibe from this guy. He's the guy that everyone will forget because there are a lot of his "type" this year. Right now, the frontrunners for the guys so far are Oliver and Steven. But I predict Mitch will come out on top and trump those two. |

It's really hard to say what will happen. I don't think anyone would have predicted Eva or Melissa to win early on. Most people had no idea who they
were until the performance shows. I don't think many people believed Ryan and Brian had a chance either until much later in the competition. Kalan was the
only eventual winner who was widely predicted to win based on his audition. That being said at this point I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Earlownage.
