Posts: 3 (02/09/04 2:22 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Hey all, I'm not sure if this topic has ever come up before but I was curious why to apply to survivor you must be an American citizen and must Reside in the US. I feel kinda ripped off that as a Canadian I don't even get the chance to apply. I spent a lot of my youth living next to Lake Erie and fishing and swimming almost every day. Once I started watching Pearl Islands I knew I could do that. I looked into applying to survivor 9 and realized that I couldn't. Does anyone know why? Is it a prize issue or an insurance issue or something like that or is it just a choice they made way back before survivor 1? I think giving Canadian shot at it would be great for the ratings up here. Its not like we have anything else to do in the winter other then watch TV. Just don't put it on a saturday night cause that conflicts with Hocley Night in Canada, eh. If anyone knows the answer to my question please reply to this thread so I can figure out what I'm gonna do about this probelm.

Therefore, we prefer to watch our own citizens compete and care little to watch Canadians. Plus, other countries have created their own version of Survivor. There's nothing stopping Canada from following suit. Finally, this topic has been covered to death.

They would have to take into consideration $1 million U.S. or Canadian if the Canadian won, and if they did win, U.S. contestants might get angry because if they're given it in U.S. currency, it would be more money due to the exchange rate.

I want to do this right now more then anything. Not only is survivor a great oportunity to travel but also to express yourself to a large audience. also to squeekymcgee, I'm from Fort Erie. Kinda cool that someone in the same area as me is also showing interest in this.

It just isn't possible at this time. He always leaves the door ajar, but it doesn't seem likely. The series is wending its way to a conclusion and will probably be gone before the enthusiasm is generated towards adding a Canada contingent - regardless of what kind of campaign is engaged.

He said that he'd like to have Canadians on the show, the only problem was different laws about what's legal and what's not in different countries. I think he also said something about having Brits on the show. P.S. I'm waiting for the day... Toronto, ONT here.

Sorry folks, it's just not going to work. As for the world idol remark- World Idol just had preselected people who sang for an hour. We are talking about 936 hours of pure starvation and fatigue. Different countries have different laws and currencies. As for world idol it worked because there were no language barriers, because music is the universal language and there was no cash prize.

Besides, MB is British and he's more interested in choosing stereotypical Americans for his show. What else? The legal contracts that protect MB from being sued after the death of a Survivor (accidentally or due to negligence) can only be enforced in a country like the good ol' USA.

Face it, your not the best country in the World...in fact your probally the most hated so keep your negative opinions about Canadians to yourselves. I think a Canadian would do better in survivor over an American anyday...we are naturally more healthier and have way better athletes...MB just does not want to sign over a million Bucks to a Canadian cause he is just as stuck up as the rest of you

I hope Q locks this thread; the Canadian issue has been dealt with many times over and the same old crap comes up everytime.

Combined Canadian and American contestants, and clearly they didn't have any problem with it (except it got beat in the ratings in the US, but did amazingly well in Canada). And actually, I think y'all might be surprised by how well Survivor does in Canada. Obviously, it doesn't attract as many millions of viewers, but percentage wise, it actually does better up here (same situation with American Idol, oddly enough).

So please dont call our best allies if there was a WW3 etc. ignoratn, lame, etc. Yes they may be the most hated country and that would be because with one blast of nukes they can destroy the whole world they are the most hated and most powerful it comes with the title of being the Strongest Nation on Earth. Naturally more healthier-yes Way better athletes--maybe in hockey but thats it watch the olympics buddy our athletes are not what one would call cream of the crop just as stuck up as the rest of you-well #1 MB is from New Zeland and #2 americans aren't stuck up its called patriotism thats all i have to say about this and how we as Canadians should give americans credit where credit is due
