Inspired by a debate at a party yesterday- let's hear your opinions, OT.

Do you consider adoption to be the same as having a biological child? Are the emotions the same, despite not having carried the child? Is it as satisfying to have a kid if your DNA isn't part of the mix and 'living on forever' through your child?

There were a lot of cold stares at the gathering after this discussion.

My Uncle and his wife adopted a baby 20 years ago.. ((the wife can't make babies)) but they loved her like their own, we all did, she was a part of my life almost everyday until she was about 13ish, and my whole family just treated her and felt like she was 'ours' and part of our dna and everything. She was accepted, loved and thought of as one of our own.. we never even mentioned the fact that she was adopted.. not even to her.

And than she ran away with some guy she met on the net last year, right before christmas, no good bye, no 'hey I am in love and leaving to make a life' no nothing, at all...for months... so...now we blame her lack of consideration on her not really being one of 'us' and most of us are not too hurt because she wasn't really 'ours' anyway, so its not that much of a loss!

DId she ever find out she was adopted? Is that why she doesn't care about you and why you don't feel that she's real family?

My brother and I were both adopted and I never could tell that it was any different than the normal bio made family. When asked about it in school, I just said we were chosen so our parents didnt have to settle like their parents did. lol

Shag.. well, some of her cousins on her mother's side told her, we think.. And the reason she doesn't care about most anyone anymore is because her mama left my uncle for one of my sisters ex girl friends for like a year when she was 4yrs old, and than came back and pretended like it never happened, which made for major mental trauma for the girl, I am sure!.. but that's another story in itself!

I actually still feel she is real family though ((we all joke about it not being a big deal.. we are all very dark and sarcastic people)) her and I email, we talk, I sent her a late christmas and bday gift after she started contacting everyone again..
