Yes, Karl is Alex' boyfriend (or, at least she THINKS he is).
The Others have been holding him. First, in the cage Kate inherited. Now, we don't KNOW where he is. That's what ALEX is trying to find out! We've been TOLD we will see Karl again. So he's probably not dead--yet. |

 He's probably still alive, because this is Lost and nobody dies unless you're a tailie or you sleep with your sibling. |

Er--there are a lot of us who think that Karl IS a Tailie, Gregoire! One of the three guys who were grabbed by The Others on Night One. I don't think Alex had any peers among her "family" until then. Part of the "infertile" Others theory and all that.

There's probably a screencap of the tailie list that (I think it was) AL found. Was there a Karl on that?

That was a list of the nine people The Others grabbed on Night 12, Cindi. I'm thinking that Karl was one of the strong, athletic threesome They grabbed on Night One. There was no list for them.

I, too, believe that Karl is a Tailie. One of the 3 grabbed on Night 1. Might well have been the first peer Alex ever met. No WONDER he became her "boyfriend"!!

I don't know pinkdolphin, I don't think it was unreasonable for him to ask "what" is the Brady Bunch. That line made it clear, to me at least, that he's spent his whole life on the island without television. Heck, he may not have even ever heard of the name Brady before (I know I'm getting off on a strange tangent here) and if you look at it objectively, "Brady Bunch" would be an odd juxtaposition of two funny words, whgich he wouldn't connect to it being a Bunch of people.
