He gets seriously aggravated at idjit contractors and makes Bob Vila and the rest of the TV builders and reno shows look like pansies. On his show he and contractor friends fix messes made by fraudster contractors and shoddy outfits. This guy impresses every tradesman I know. He is the ultimate Generalist in the building trades.

Her show, Holmes on Homes, and Flip This House are my three favorite Home shows. I hate House Hunters, prolly due to boring narration. My "Flip This House" addiction is due to the fakeness and staging. It is the most fake reality show in TV history.

I like property virgins because it actually does seem slightly realistic. They don't always just have 3 choices and pick 1. Sometimes they say they'll wait. Other times they focus on one and get them to lower the price. You've got to love the message that Flip this House sends, even if you do things that are stupid, you'll still make money, so have a blast!

He is the biggest booster for increasing skilled trades numbers, and increasing home inspectors powers, and consumer protection. Which only bottom feeder contractors disagree with. I think Mike has single handedly done more to edumacate the masses to quality craftsmanship in Canada than everyone else combined. I hear average people talking about weeping tile systems and proper foundation coatings, insulation and framing like pros. People quote Holmes as their source way too often. His personality is a bit huge, but I think he earned the right. Most of the episodes are unpaid volunteer tradesor voluntarily underpaid. Materials donated or bought with his charitable foundation money to help people in need. The episodes were he ripped down that $70k addition reno for that broke family with the handicapped kid was classic Holmes.

I've questioned his assessments of damages frequently and half of the contractors he uses that I've recognized are from top notch companies, who never come cheap. Some tend to be commercial contractors and not home builders. Comparing Toronto prices with NS is the problem. I can get three times the work in NS done than in Toronto due to diminished salary expectations. A good licensed Carpenter in Toronto should be making no less than 130k shortly after apprenticing if he is any good.
