Roseanne--favorite episodes |

Haven't seen a thread on Roseanne. I think it's one of the funniest comedies in syndication. My favorite episodes are the Halloween specials and the first season.

I loved the Halloween episodes. They always did them the best.

My all time favorite episode is where Becky "cut the cheese" in front of the student council.

The episode where DJ won't kiss a black girl in the student play and Roseanne gets furious and says that "we didn't raise you to bea bigot", but Dan sort of agrees with DJ, and it was briliant in its REALISTIC depiction of the nuances of racism.

The last one, because that meant that there'd never be another one.

The one where they realize that DJ is spending all of his free time masturbating in the bathroom. Darlene is hilarious as she keeps finding ways to bring it up in conversation.

The one where they brought back the old Becky. She walks in and Roseanne says (paraphrase) "where have you been - I've been calling for you for a year."

I really love them all. I think this show is underappreciated, it was tremendously well done. I didn't care about it when it was in production, but I've seen them all in syndication (several times now) and have come to appreciate their genious. One of the best series of all time.
Hard to pick a best ep. I like the ones when Roseanne was working at Rodbell's, that's prolly my fav season. For just the quirkyness I like when they explain why David's name changed from Kevin to David--Darlene says she changed it. I think a future spin-off showing DJ as an adult would be interesting. He'd be one messed up puppy. |

This show is really funny, even the last season (when they won the lottery) was okay. They should have ended it the season before but it was still funnier then most shows.
I like the middle years, most notably before Becky got married to Mark and Darlene was entering her hermit years. |

actually..they did a brilliant gag at the end of the first episode with the new Becky. They are all watching a repeat of Bewitched. They are discusing which Darrin they liked better...the old one or the new one. The new Becky says, "I like the new Darrin much better."

Quote: Same here. Once they started rerunning them on TBS, that's when I got hooked. My favorite eps are the Halloween ones. Generally, I liked the early seasons the best, before Becky and Mark got serious and before David came into the picture. I think Lori Metcalf ("Jackie") is an amazing actress and really brilliant on this show. I mean this sincerely: this is one of the best shows in history. Before Roseanne, family situation shows were neat, pretty, everyone loved each other, nobody had any real problems, and everyone was normal. Roseanne gave t.v. a reality check. |

Re: Roseanne | ||
Quote: That was really clever, because after she said it everyone gave her a funny look. They also did a funny thing when the old Becky came back and Roseanne, et al. were like "Where the hell have you been?" They switched the Becky's back and forth two or three times. The "DJ locks himself in the bathroom" one was pretty funny. David was pretty cool, esp. when he moved in with Darlene and no one knew about it. |

The last 2 seasons were....

awful. Some markets won't even air the last 2 seasons because they are considered so bad. Becky #1 and #2 traded off the year Becky #1 came back. Her supporting cast was first rate (Goodman, Metcalf, Gilbert) and some may disagree, I thought the best years on the show were when Roseanne was with Tom Arnold, the show seemed to hit it's stride during those years.

Quote: Yeah, I didn't really like the last couple of seasons. After they won the lotto, Dan went to CA and the rest of the family started going to places like the Hamptons, had a few cheesy adventures, Jackie dating the prince, etc. Boring. Although, the way they ended the series was pretty clever. Everything from Dan's heart attack onwards was made up by Roseanne. There was no lotto. Becky was actually with David and Darlene was with Mark. And Jackie was a lesbian, not the mother. |

Actually, the whole series was a fantasy or something right?

Roseanne is one of my faves. I try not to miss any of the eps in syndication, even though I think I've watched them all a few times already!
My favourite episode (besides the Halloween ones) was from the first season when Roseanne and the other girls quit their jobs at Wellman Plastics. |

I loved the episode when her father died. The phone conversation Jackie had with a semi-deaf aunt was the funniest I ever heard.
Loved how Roseanne tomented the upitty neighbor too. Loved most of it until it got preachy near the end. Kathie |

Re: Roseanne--favorite episodes
So there are other Roseanne fans besides me. That is one of my all time favorite shows. It is one of the last actual TV shows(non-reality, news or soaps) that I actually watched. I liked all but the last year, but especially the early Roseanne at Rodbells because of Martin Mull. I loved the chemistry between he and Roseanne. One of my favorites is the one where Rodbells was closing and Roseanne and Martin(I can't believe I can't think of the character's name) and the other waitress(I can't think of her name, either) are toasting the closing and Martin says something like, "Well, we're not standing out in the parking lot watching the place go up in flames, but this is good, too." |
