Okay, so Ben's flash-forward clearly happenedl, duh, in the future, meaning the Freighties had already found the Island. I guess they never get their communications equipment working to let Widmore know where they are?

Widmore has been on the island at some time. Ben told he knew he could not kill him, much like michael being unable to die because the island needed him. Widmore knew the Black Rock was on the island. He is trying to find a way back. Maybe he thought the ships log could help him narrow down his search.

If Widmore was financially linked to Hanso in any way, don't you think tonight's auction in which he bought Captain Hanso's Black Rock Diary sort of refuted that possibility? I mean, if he was interested in it, why not just give it to him, if you're a business partner.

Wasn't there some sort of falling out suggested in the LOST Experience?

Widmore could still be connected financially to Hanso - the diary could've been part of an estate sale or something that Widmore had no control over and he needed to get his hands on that diary (for reasons we'll hopefully find out later).

I've imagined that Charles Widmore is Daddy, and Penny, Zander, and his twin are Charles' children. But that's just my point of reference--for now.

If Charles is dead (this possibility has been discussed), Zander's twin is out of the picture...

There's no mention of a Charles or Penelope in it but I can't imagine the use of the name is coincidental. In the book the Widmore HQ shares a building with the Hanso Foundation.

Agreed. The jury is still open as to whether Widmore and Hanso are one and the same. I do have a problem with the age though.

At this point in time, Charles Widmore is closer in age to what the Degroots are now. Widmore would have to have been the recipient of some pretty good anti-aging mojo to look like he does now, if he is Hanso. Of course that is that life-extension research.....

The good news is that the photos clearly do not eliminate the possibility that Hanso = Widmore. The similarity in the cheeks help too. Add a little hair on top... shazam!

Still, they could always Penelope the Orientation footage with a different actor for Hanso later.
