don't think this has been brought up, but I just rewatched this epi and I've been doing a season 1 epi every so often, and I think quite a few parallels can be drawn from boone being tied up and -dreaming/seeing/living- shannon being chased by the smoke monster and later dying with Locke telling him he saw whatever the island wanted him to see and that it was as real as he believes it is.

Well, That hatch implodes, but sent out some projectiles (desmond, excercise bike). Desmond...

The smoke monsters have had images buried within their smoke. It's as if the smoke monsters can drill into your brain to learn about you and your past. Maybe Desmond was just possessed by a smoke demon while he was unconscious and what he experienced was ol smokey picking his brain for information. Desmond's subconscious simply linked info about the island with his past and could have generated false memories. If the smoke monsters are in tune with the future then maybe they left a...

Maybe we should just take Desmond at his word? There was a flash when he turned the key. His life flashed before him. . .particularly those two days from his past. He woke up back on the Island, after being unconscious from the blast. BUT--he's still seeing "flashes" before his eyes. Flashes of THE FUTURE. Almost as if it was an after-effect of what happened to him.

Will Desmond continue to be precog, then? Or will the effect wear off? Only time will tell.

The purple flash may have given Desmond flashes of future insight in many different time frames, dimensions (Desmensions), or parallel universes without ever having to time travel.

I guess if we could explain Hurley's institutional visions maybe we could explain Desmond's.

Okay, I'm quoting myself, too. I'm officially in the "It's all a fantasy created when Desmond fell off the ladder in the red paint scene" camp.

Head trauma, multiple references to Oz, bump on the head, over the rainbow, parallel universe, saving everyone, main characters who must be saved, hordes of insignificant characters, a central evil character ...

Maybe the red paint scene wasn't the first head trauma, and he even dreamed up Penny Widmore?

I still think it's another Marvins tie. Seems to me they have a habit of taking their cpontinuity/editing errors and then trying to eventually make them mean something so it doesn't seemlike they screwed up.

So they knew that long ago where they were going with Desmond's character and remembered to film just one picture...

Well, I was thinking last night (wow, right?) and I remember reading a comment somewhere from TPTB about there being some significance to what was on the table beside Penny in the finale scenes. Beyond that, it wouldn't matter to me either.

Desmond-centric

Kate and Sawyer return to their island. They want to enlist help to go back and rescue Jack. Hurley gets Charlie to help him find out the truth about Desmond, who has been acting differently ever since the hatch exploded. We will see Desmond's life before joining the army. We will get a really good sense of what the Others are doing.
