Fast National ratings for Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008

The return of "Lost" led ABC to a ratings win Thursday, in the process helping "Eli Stone" get off to a decent start.

ABC averaged an 8.3 rating/13 share for the night. CBS finished second at 6.9/11, beating out FOX's 6.2/9. NBC, 4.5/7, took fourth. this whole idea of 23 eps in a season to cover 39 weeks (or whatever a tv year is.) and that idea in the new world of tivo, and web viewers, and iWhatever downloads, and dvd only folks...

I totally agree it would be best if they could do it in the fall. BUT...that is where they run into trouble. I really didn't think the overall would be that much higher. But if the average broke 13 million, I guess I was wrong! (Not that I mind being wrong, in this case!)

Again, the audience for LOST is settled in. Our numbers are not gonna go up or down that much. Now, whether or not that holds true come February is something we can't know till February. Is the 95% of "casual" viewership for LOST gonna come back in February? I remember my grandma watching it religiously every day as she ironed. Once I retired, I tuned in to see all these kids on acting like Bob Barker was Elvis. I was stunned. Now I'm hooked myself. LOL...then I guess I'm too old to know that<g>. My Mother-in-law (who passed away at 91) loved that show...and Bob. I think she had a thing for him like we have for Locke<g>.
