I don't see why they wouldn't at this point. If not, can it get sold to another network? I would hope Showtime would catch it if HBO drops it.

What are HBO's big shows right now? Big Love & True Blood are really the only hour long dramas that have gone for more than one season lately, right?

Michael K. Williams (The Wire) is joining the cast of Boardwalk Empire. They're certainly putting together a great cast. Now all we need is an announcement from HBO that they will be picking up the series.

I could see it being motivation for the writers to finish. Heck they have a couple years to finish, but I don't know how many books are out. HBO does seem to have a habit of biting of more than it can chew, then cancelling them because they get costly. (Carnivale, Rome, Deadwood)

I can get behind either of the main shows, but I love Scorsese and Buscemi, so that's what I'm rooting for above all else.

Mind you I don't subscribe to HBO, I just buy the DVDs,...

So far just the comedies have been picked up. I guess because they're cheaper and can go into production quicker.

No word yet on the other shows.

The problem with ASOIAF is that the series is only halfway complete and shows no signs of being finished any time in the next decade. HBO might be nervous about starting an expensive epic fantasy series that has no definitive ending.

That looks good, but basically seems like a serious version of Weeds. Pretty much exactly like it actually. ASOIAF sounds ok by your description, so I guess I'll be happy and sad either way if only one is picked up. Yeah I heard about the too dark part, but it's HBO, what do they care about too dark? Oh well I guess, I've never read comics so it just seemed cool from an article. Any news on what has been picked up and what hasn't?

On a side note, I just found out that Preacher apparently isn't coming to HBO. I heard about it back when True Blood was in development, and it seemed interesting. I don't read comics, so I don't know anything other than a brief summary, anyone know what the breaker was?

Apparently the subject matter was too dark for HBO. I haven't read the comic, so I guess I'll have to take their word for it.

It really doesn't have that much to do with LOTR. The showrunner described it as The Sopranos set in the Lord of the Rings, which is as accurate a description as you could get probably. Theres not like...magic or elves or all of that shit. Just humans doing fucked up things. Trust me, its right up HBO's alley.

But yeah it really wouldn't be a Sci-Fi show I don't...

Mind you I have never seen LOTR so ASOIAF doesn't exactly float my boat, but it doesn't quite seem like an HBO show. I've never read the books, but it seems more like a sci fi type show. ugh, if thats the case, it better be A Song of Ice and Fire. No offense to Scorsse, but ASOIAF is MADE to be a television show, I really think it could be amazing. Especially if they paired it with True Blood.

No, The Washingtonienne and Treme are two separate shows. The Washingtonienne is a comedy series produced by Sarah Jessica Parker. Treme is David Simon's new series.

I think both of those shows will probably be picked up.
