Back when I was an adjuster, I had a WC case in front of a hearings officer go up for a lump sum settlement. All lump sums have to be approved at the Department in the NH jurisdiction, and the claimant is supposed to be at MMI (maximum medical improvement). I had negotiated it because the women was too damned obese and couldn't lose the weight necessary to have surgery, so I got an IME physician to state that, without surgery, she WAS at MMI. The hearings officer wouldn't approve it,...
