Finally. The semi-recent Australian one-off known as Celebrity Survivor: Vanuatu was filmed in digital-ly widescreen and looked far better than any of the American seasons.

I just hope they show it in widescreen on standard TVs as well, but CBS unfortunately doesn't do that with its HD shows at this point. So we'll have to either get the torrents or wait for a DVD that'll never come out to get it in the proper aspect ratio.

Absolutely! That's just as big news, that CBS are still (assumedly) expecting Survivor to be around for another couple/few years at least.

Also: My gawd!!! I've been desperately wanting widescreen Survivor....

I suppose clearer picture is better but on VHS it'll only look so purdy anyways...big whoop...DVD releases with the HD...now THAT would be something to get excited about...

Sweet, been waiting a long time for this, I guess we now know they are deff. doing another tropical setting, can't see the point of shooting in HD in a dull place like China. Can't wait for the underwater shots in HD!

I'm sad that we'll never get to see Cirieownage in HD. That said, I agree with Joaquenix. This is definitely a sign that CBS wants to keep Survivor around for awhile yet. They wouldn't have made the switch if they weren't planning on using th equipment for many more seasons to come.

They'll have to pick some beautiful locations (CI and Palau would have been great in HD)... And I think the stranding of Survivors in their regular clothes and underwear will be a thing of the past. I don't think China's camp shots would have looked good in HD, and Fiji/Vanuatu would have been pretty dry and dull too.
