On top of being one of the biggest retailers in North America I'm sure it helped that Wal-Mart offered an exclusive bonus track with purchase of the CD there.

Apparently the largest chunk of his album sales come from Wal-Mart. Not suprised.

Cook certainly has staying power. His album isn't perfect but it isn't as bad as everyone says. I personally think it's great but not as good as his indie effort "Analog Heart".

He is already approaching 900,000 just with Light On. He has a few songs on the album that can cetainly get the album to the 2 mil mark in sales.

I think everyone here is crazy to think that Cook or Archie have/or will match Jordin's success. Without any major hits neither will rank as high as her in the year-end charts or be nominated for any awards. Right now Cook got lucky with TOML, but will that be his biggest hit? And can Archie get a top 10 in POP? It doesn't matter how much you sell(Clay anyone) no one outside of idol will care or remember in a few years.

I just think it comes down to numbers. I'm sure Archuleta's fans are hardcore and quite possibly have bought multiple copies of his album, but Cook won AI by 12 million votes, I think it stands to reason that he just has a larger fanbase. Plus it's all about demographics, I'm quite sure Archie's fanbase consists of more of the age groups who are going to be requesting a song a billion times at their local station.

In fairness, Archie's single has done wayyyy better than Cook's single. They play his song a lot more than Cook. It didn't necessarily translate into CD sales, but like Jordin, his singles may do better overall than the CD.

I know nothing about record sales, but if I were David Cook, I wouldn't be disappointed with 842,000 especially with the way things are going.

I wouldn't call Jordin a flop either. Yeah she didn't sell as much as Carrie or Kelly, but she has had a lot of radio success which is something idol needed after the disaster of Taylor Hicks.

Now with all that said, I'm more surprised by David Archuleta's record sales. :O I would have thought his fanbase was the...

I think with Idol if you win and don't become a monster like Carrie or Daughtry right away, they consider you sort of a flop. It's a little too early to count Cook out. His next singles could do better. LO was a shitty first single though.
